Intel definately when it comes to servers. Although the dual core amd's do hold their own they are not a patch on a set of dual xeons and thats a fact.
And if we are talking about the lower end servers then yet again intel beats amd hands down. Grab two machines one intel and one amd both of similar spec, then compile something timely like xorg and see how much faster an intel will do it

Recompile XORG for AMD and you will be surprised
Intel is good for databases such as MSSQL and was good for ORACLE before. You can't compare AMD and Intel on linux. Its not windows. You can optimize almost all applications on it for AMD processor so it will work much faster.
Actually my AMD works faster than same Intel and its Cool n Quiet
Maybe with CoreDuo Intel will do some break thru. Will see

you said it yourself when you higlightened sql databases. When it comes to raw power in my experience Intel has the market, dont get me wrong AMD has come a long way and yes agreed you can optimise unix around it nicely, but for me...i'll stick with the trusty Intel CPU because it performs tasks seemingly under light or seriously heavy load.
